  • It was a relaxing bus ride from town to the stunning snow valley.
  • When we arrived they dropped us off in front of this building at the Murodo Terminal and then parked the bus.
  • It was pretty cold when we arrived, but it warmed up when we left. So bring gloves and a warm coat with you. Also if you wear a backpack it will be easier to get around.
  • We pulled our gloves on and started off. It is a good idea to wear waterproof shoes for trekking.
  • We walked around, enjoyed chatting, and took many photographs. Though I didn't check my photos and found out many were overexposed. So do some test first and research about taking photo in areas with snow reflecting the sunlight.
  • At first when we arrived, we needed to pull out our umbrellas. Occasionally, it got windy. I would recommend bringing rain wear, since the umbrellas didn't work so well. However, soon it got sunny outside and we could enjoy our stroll even more.
  • Sun lotion and strong sunglasses are recommended. My eyes took time to adjust to the bright sun after stepping off the bus.
  • A magnificent view! As we were walking to the building, this view was to the left not far before the building. I read that we should be careful to go only in area permitted, since mountains can be dangerous especially with snow still around.
  • In this building you can find snack stands, restaurants, souvenir shops, restrooms, a hotel, an onsen, and more. It is a bit crowded, but a good place for taking breaks.
  • We could walk through another corridor of snow walls behind the building. We got there by walking up the stairs in the building. Also, there is a great nature conservation center in this area.
  • And then, unfortunately, it was time to go home. Someday I will come back and stay in one of the hotels up in the mountain.

A friend said they went to Shoumyo Falls today (June 17th). Shoumyo is the highest waterfall in Japan, and it is also part of the Tateyama- Kurobe Alpine Route. Since there was so much snow this year, it is a great time to see the waterfall. The snow is rapidly melting, but there is still some snow for you to enjoy around Murodo. Each year the chance to see the snow depends on the amount of snow fall for that year, as well as the weather.
