How to Use

JapanTourist.jp is a comprehensive resource for information about Japan. It is a community of contributors and as such is continually evolving and growing. This means that not all subjects and categories are complete, but as with any active community, the information resource gets deeper and broader with time.

For Visitors

If you are a visitor looking for information about Japan, JapanTourist is easy to use.

Recommended
Each week we come up with a recommended course of sights and activities, based on locations and interests. Along with the locations suggested, we give recommended methods of transport to progress between locations, and the approximate time this will take.
Activities
We came up with what we believe are popular activities for tourists coming to Japan. Click on the buttons for each activity you are interested in (press again to unselect), then press on the region(s) you are researching. If we have content related to these search criteria, it will show as a list for you to click through to.
Dining & Bars
Research major cuisines and locations with the same button selection method used for Activities.
Regions
There are two ways to move around regions: by menu and by map. Japan is divided into major regions, then sub-regions (prefectures), then cities and towns, then specific locations. Our map system allows you to drill down by menu, or to traverse the map and find locations that might interest you.
Participating as a Contributor

There are many ways to contribute to JapanTourist.

First, you can register as a Casual User to receive an account that allows you freedom of comment and access. Our commenting and rating features are similar to other user-review websites, but with JapanTourist you will also earn points that can be used in our MetroRewards store.

Second, you can register as a Regular Contributor. In addition to the Casual User's capabilities, our staff will contact you directly about submitting articles and/or photographs to JapanTourist. The rate of MetroRewards points you earn will be accelerated, and you can make a name for yourself while helping us to promote Japan as a fantastic travel destination.

Third, in the future you will be able to sign on as a Professional Contributor. As JapanTourist grows, we will be looking for professional writers, photographers, videographers, and more. Check back for openings in the coming months.

Finally, you can join our front-line team as a Regional Partner. Contact us about the opportunities available to join our Japan-wide network and become the face of JapanTourist for your prefecture. Regional Partners work to improve their local communities at a grassroots level, connecting with local Japanese and foreign communities.

Earning rewards

All Casual Users and Regular Contributors earn points, but Regular Contributors receive substantially more due to the more detailed information they need to submit. Go here for rewards system details. Points may be redeemed online through the MetroRewards shop. There are a number of rules about redeeming these points, so please read this before redeeming.

Participating as a merchant

JapanTourist is also intended to help merchants serving the Japan market. If your company wishes to be involved there are two ways:

  • Commercial Partner — this significant commitment includes both fees and products/services, and generally requires a one-year contract and usage of your logo as a partner.
  • Advertiser — this flexible approach allows you to purchase advertising on our site.

Go here for more on Commercial Partners and here for Advertising.

If you need support from us regarding issues you may have found on the site, or portions which are unclear, please use this contact form.

Thank you.
